When students are chosen as the Waste-Free Star of the Week, they are given a folder to take home containing their color prints. It is their job to create the captions for the pictures that will appear on the bulletin board the following week. As you can see by the caption above and the captions to the left, students put a lot of effort into the written or typed statements about their lunches. They know all students in the school will see their waste-free lunch messages. Captions are often read aloud on the microphone during lunch shifts.

By posting our initiative on the school's marquis, our community can see that we care about water conservation. Perhaps it makes them think about conserving water as they drive past. To the right, you will see a list of the meaningful activities the Green Team planned for our student body during AES Water Conservation Week. Students, staff, volunteers, and our AES families were all engaged in some way, making AES Water Conservation Week a total success! |
Part of Atholton's Water Conservation Week activities included a World's Water Demonstration that was wheeled in to every classroom by our wonderful parent volunteers.
In advance, two carts were prepared with all necessary materials for our volunteers to use during their classroom demos. A schedule was put together once each teacher used a wiki to request particular times for their presentations. Volunteers then signed up for specific times. This visual demonstration allowed our students to see and understand the concept that the freshwater we have available on this Earth is so minimal compared to all of the water on the surface of our planet. Big thanks to our volunteer parents. It takes a village to teach our kids, and we have a village full of wonderful helpers. Students responded very positively to the volunteer demonstrations, showing their surprised expressions when they saw how very little water we really have available to us. |
In order to train our wonderful volunteers for presenting to every class in the school, they each had access to a series of demonstration videos to watch before the big day. Click HERE to see the demo videos, as well as the step-by-step document listing the process for the demonstration.
